I just gotta ask.

I am a Christian. I always have been and I always will be. I'm not looking for a discussion so much as a clarification. I have seen so many comments on blogs and other sites on the Internet that refer to Karma. What goes around comes around? He'll get his? Justice? You get what you give?

Tell me what it means to you. Is it just a "phrase" or something more? Is it a life's belief system? If so, could you expound on this a bit? How did it start? Where did it come from? What does it all mean?

I know the same questions could be asked of my belief in God. I just don't get it and would like to understand better. Like,.....I understand what evolution is all about. I understand Judaism. I understand those who are atheists or agnostics. But I don't understand Karma as a religion or part of a religion.

To those of you who respond, thank-you.

I believe Karma is just that.. Karma. It works with any belief you have. I believe Christians believe in heaven and hell.. that is a sort of Karma to me.

I believe in a God, that helps even the score for the underdogs in life. I believe if you are evil to the underdog,, Karma will kick your butt. If you try to do your best.. Karma.. will put a little something extra in your Christmas stocking per say.

Karma to me, is just evening out life a bit.

It's a belief system... if you live well and treat others with respect and love, then hopefully you'll be treated the same way. It's a way of leaving everything in the universe's/god's hands... instead of seeking retribution or trying to "make someone pay" for what they did, you let it go. They'll get what they deserve, somehow, someday.

I believe in God also and as stated above I feel that if you live a good life and treat others kindly then you are likely to be treated well in return.

If you choose to treat others badly and to be hateful then you should expect the same in return, so in a sense what comes around goes around.

When my time comes I have been taught that my life will be judged and my deeds will determine my fate, so as a Christian it is within my teachings and belief to treat people well if I want to go to heaven when I die, the only other option is Hell.

Karma in itself is a doctrine of Buddhism. However, in today's society people tend to use the word instead of saying the old adage,
"what comes around goes around." I am by no means a philosopher of the word but for me and myself I believe that whatever we put out into the world will come back at us. For instance...and this is a very weak case of karma but let me explain.

When my brother was going through puberty he had what I called pointed boobs. They stuck out unlike any other boy booby I had seen. Here comes the karma...my youngest son has the same boob tendency as my brother. I made fun of him and in turn I got a kid with the same nipples. Now laugh, because it is kindof funny- but do you see what I mean by what I believe karma to be?

Karma comes from some religious belief from India that centers around cause and effect. People have the free will to do good or bad and the resulting consequences is called Karma. Or something like that. It is not a religion, but a tenant of the Hinduism religion. For every action there is an opposite and equal (I don’t think equal is correct in my opinion) reaction.

One other thing that hasnt been mentioned here (I dont think) is that you can't wish bad Karma on somebody or you are messing with karma yourself. Its just supposed to happen; good or bad.

Dont even THINK in your head about wishing bad karma on someone. Karma knows and she's a bitch. She'll get ya for just thinking it. lol

It has been thrown around a lot lately lol.

Christianity has a kind of 'karma' thing going on...
Nobody gets away with anything in this life. You may see a criminal offender who 'gets away' with a crime, by either the justice system not working, etc. But nobody gets off scott free.
For example, say OJ really did it, and he got off. He did not get away with anything.
If you are not judged accurately in THIS life, you can bet you will in the NEXT life.

I'm not religious. Karma to me is if you do the right thing, the right thing will be done back to you. Let the universe sort it out. Someone cheats you. Fine. One day someone will cheat that person.

Hi Middle Child,

In response to your question,

Karma is the law of moral causation. The theory of Karma is a fundamental doctrine in Buddhism.
In this world nothing happens to a person that he does not for some reason or other deserve. Usually, men of ordinary intellect cannot comprehend the actual reason or reasons. The definite invisible cause or causes of the visible effect is not necessarily confined to the present life, they may be traced to a proximate or remote past birth.

According to Buddhism, this inequality is due not only to heredity, environment, "nature and nurture", but also to Karma. In other words, it is the result of our own past actions and our own present doings. We ourselves are responsible for our own happiness and misery. We create our own Heaven. We create our own Hell. We are the architects of our own fate
Years ago I had a friend that was a Buddhist. She would always tell be that I had such a beautiful Aura which produced great Karma. I would reply to her with a smile, it’s the Holy Sprit. She would smile back and reply, “No Sweetie its Karma. Your outlook on life is breath taking. Your Karma will produce a great life for you.” Than I would tell her about the Father, The Son and the Holy Sprit...

To make a long story short, we remained friends for quite some time until we lost touch with each other. Neither of us tried to force our beliefs on the other. We were simply two people with different views that shared our outlook on life with each other.

From the understanding that I received from my friend, she believed that if you thought positive, uplifting, energetic thoughts and constantly lived a life of good will than you would have a life of good will. She also believed that if a person had a negative outlook on life and did bad things, than their life would be a result of their actions.

The Bible states “that whatever a man sowed, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7) Jesus said “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” In other words, if you sow evil, than you will eventually reap the evil that you put out. Treat people the way you want to be treated.

As for me, I choose to believe what the word of God says “The Holy Spirit is our Helper.” "When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about me, (John 16:7).

Hope this helps some.

God bless.
