HI-HO mower! AWAY!

Hunter bought me a new mower.  I realize this was a kind gesture.  Our lawn is divided up with many things to go around.  Not a big yard.  Former mower, while not completely dead, well...we were close to calling hospice.  That mower was perfect.  It was lightweight, mulching and if bagging was needed, the bagger was easy to handle.  I did struggle at times due to the ditches, drains or gullies-whichever you prefer-that Hunter dug (ok, he had me do most of it) to handle gutter drainage.  When he had the patio poured, he put in drains beneath the cement to come out the end of the patio.  Perhaps an idea that looked better on paper as the one downspout right by the back door seems to  overflow? creating an tiny ice rink that we have to remember to avoid during the snow/ice weather.  Course, I think having an electrician put in a light by the back door would be helpful...oh wait!  Hunter is a retire electrician.  On to the new mower.  He bought it in Wisconsin and  I was not there to help pick it out.  It is heavy.  It is self-propelled (which I don't need) and the grass flies out the side chute.  Would need an additional part to make it a mulching mower plus the piece would stick out as far as the side discharge thing does.  This makes is hard to mow as before.  I can no longer get close to things. The flap on the back is made out of plastic instead of rubber and it is too high off the ground.  I have a mark on my shin where a rock shot out and hit me.  I use the self-propel thing only a little bit here an there. I have it set on the tortoise setting as opposed to the rabbit and the lever for that is marked as such - truth.  But when I do use the self-propel feature, the mower kind of rears up on it hind "legs" then back down where it flies-dragging me behind it until I can remember to release the lever. There are alot of spots I can no longer mow as the mower is too big to reach in there.  As and aside, I'd like to say that I have used different self-propelled mowers and do know how o use them.
There's more but I want to read a few posts and then I need to go downstairs and make some chicken soup.
Had shut down the computer because Hunter wanted us to move it as a friend was bringing us a computer desk.  I did as he said but,...nothing else occurred.  So I turned it back on and oddly....it seems to be working better...gmail....blog.  Yay!     Peace.

No offense, however, I'm so thankful I have a considerate, caring husband, that takes care of me, as well as the yard mowing, digging, heavy lifting, etc. I carried the babies, birthed them, raised them and I'm retired.

If you can't get close to things because of the grass discharge thing, go in the opposite direction. Then you can get a close as before. Women! I love'em but lordy the way they think sometimes...

Mowers are the women's domain around here. We have two semi-dead mowers that work occasionally. You let one sit whiel using the other one and the other one gives up on you.. you try the other and its working for a little bit anyuway. It makes it all a struggle. I love new mowers!

The discharge thing kinda made me giggle. I hate it when mulch is left behind!

Coffey - I KNOW that. I have been mowing since I was 15. It just pisses me off. Guess you'd have to see my lawn to get what I am talking about.

Just wanted to say thinking of you! It is hard when others step in thinking they are helping only to make matters harder. I hope you get used to the new mower soon.

I know what you mean when you say you have to have a certain mower for a certain sized yard with things in it. Wish you luck with the new mower but I think you will just curse it and grieve the perfect lawn mower you had.
